Celebrating The Life, Legacy & 100th Birthday Of Malcolm X

Harlem is set to come alive once again this May 19th, as the December 12th Movement marks 35 years of the Malcolm X Black Power Shut'em Down Rally, a powerful tribute to the enduring legacy of Malcolm X. At 12pm The Rally March will kick off the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Harlem State Building. From 1PM until 4 PM, businesses along 125th Street will shutter their doors in solidarity, honoring Malcolm X and his relentless international fight for human rights.

For over three decades, the December 12th Movement has demanded that businesses close to commemorate the life and work of one of the most influential figures in Black history. This year is especially significant as it marks the centennial celebration of Malcolm X – a century since his birth, yet his words and message remain as relevant and resonant as ever.

"By any means necessary," Malcolm X once said, a call that continues to echo throughout the streets of Harlem and beyond. The Shut'em Down Rally serves as a reminder that the struggle for justice, equality, and human rights persists. This event is not just a commemoration; it’s a call to action, urging everyone to stand up, speak out, and remember the profound impact of Malcolm X's teachings.

Join the December 12th Movement and the Harlem community in paying homage to a man whose vision of Black empowerment and self-determination has inspired generations and will continue to inspire many more to come.
