Mariah Carey Hit With Another Lawsuit.

November 03, 2023

Mariah Carey is facing a second lawsuit over alleged copyright infringement related to her timeless holiday classic, "All I Want For Christmas Is You." This legal challenge comes from songwriter Andy Stone, who used to perform under the name Vince Vance. Interestingly, this isn't the first time Stone has taken legal action against Carey for the same reason. In 2022, he filed a similar claim but later withdrew it.

The crux of Stone's claim centers on a song he released in 1989 with his group Vince Vance & the Valiants, also titled "All I Want For Christmas Is You." This song gained some popularity, reaching No. 52 on the US country singles chart in 1994, thanks in part to extensive radio play during the Christmas season of 1993. Carey's famous rendition of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" was recorded and released in 1994.

The legal battle raises questions about copyright and intellectual property rights, specifically the similarities and differences between the two songs and whether Carey's rendition infringes on Stone's intellectual property. With this being the second lawsuit, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold and what impact they may have on the world-famous holiday hit. You be the judge.
